The arts in broken places

For a long time, I derided artists as dumb, spoiled, rich kids who contribute nothing to society but meaningless fluffy, subjective material like their feelings. A lot of it came from not knowing many real artists and just generalizing everything I knew about the industry based on my college roommate who epitomized my stereotypes. Anyway, after seeing a few documentaries and meeting real life artists, I've come to appreciate the arts a lot more.  There is power in the arts  in a cruel world. There's some things about the arts in broken places that  can't be remedied by just logic and reason ...
